Post E56 - state of play

<<Posting as PlotCo for the first time!>>

The self destruct has stopped, the casualties have been medivaced to a JTF medical facility, and everyone’s taking a breath. But it doesn’t last long. Gunfire can be heard down the corridors, and the SEF get back to work. Due to the rush to get to the gate room, there wasn’t time to clear out all of the side corridors and offices, so some resistance remains. The firefight continues into the night, as more and more allied forces pour into the underground complex. In the early hours of the morning, the all clear is sounded.

The news about the Queen and the General is spread quickly through the enemy’s forces, and there is an almost immediate slackening of attacks, but not a complete stop. A review of the situation shows that the JTF forces are able to continue to hold the remaining fronts without the support of the SEF for the time being. FOB Half Blood is decommissioned, and all of the off-world SEF forces are recalled back to base.

After the usual stand-down and debrief periods, everyone is given 1 months leave from duty, to go home, see their families, and not have to carry the weight of the world on their shoulders.

News about the Prime Minister’s assassination was made public several months ago, and the country has mourned the loss of the man who united the governments of Earth. But soon afterwards, the politicians got back to their debates and accusations in the Commons. Is the world really safe? What happened in Corsham? The usual stuff.
Life in Corsham itself was severely disrupted during the last few months, over 15,000 people were evacuated from Corsham, Box, and the surrounding villages, whilst the UNE deployed forces and set up their cordon. But slowly, life returns to normal. People return home, trains resume between London and Bristol, soldiers leave, and shops reopen.

One month after being granted leave, the SEF return to the base. Access to the underground facilities is restricted. Most of the day-to day work is being carried out at the various facilities above ground (Rudloe Manor being the main one). The gate itself was beamed to another part of the former mines, to allow for essential gate operations to continue, whilst the complex is cleaned out and repaired. It’s going to take several months before the refurbishments are completed, and there’s lots of paperwork and due diligence still to be done.
One lingering issue has been Lamprey. No-one has been able to contact, or dial the base in the last few months.

But for now, the SEF are stood there at the Stargate, defending the Earth from threats, and returning to explore the mysteries that lie beyond the event horizon.

OOC: Feel free to continue to RP on the forums during any of the time-frames established above. The one month’s leave time won’t affect your downtimes. There will also be a chance for people to be involved with a few of the items mentioned above as Missions or Research during the next downtime as well.

There will be more news and posts about Downtimes and the IC world in general over the next couple of weeks. Please bear with us whilst we get settled into the PlotCo role.

Just to clarify a point:
Boscombe Down was not directly effected by the situation that occurred in Corsham.
However, there may be minor changes made, pending the general review of SEF security and such that will be taking place during the next few months.

It has been assumed that all player characters were involved in the war/foothold situation in some manner, even if they were not present at events 55&56, and as such are eligible for the 1 months leave. However, we're going to leave the decision on that involvement to the players affected, for the most part.
