Crystal PDAs

Post by sm0keyb » Thu Jul 26, 2018 8:47 am

Why do Crystal PDAs still require research to obtain? Many characters now have them, each having spent 3 months researching them, giving a total of many years research. Why are they not a completely understood off the shelf item by now?

I am not a ref, but I assume you could just email the ref address if you wanted an answer only from the ref team, so here's my 2c:

"Research" isn't quite the right word when it comes to CPDAs, but it avoids us introducing a tertiary mechanic specific to them. As each CPDA is customised (i.e. you get to pick its traits), it's custom made - by your character for your character. IC, it might make some sense to have a lineup produced and people just pick the one with the traits they want even so, but OC it's a thing that gives you a mechanical benefit & advantage, so needs an associated cost. Research months are one of our cheapest currencies, TBH.
